In a heavyweight train wreck, Russia’s Alexander Volkov (ranked 7) knocked out Surinam’s Jairzinho Rozenstruik (ranked 8) in one round at UFC Vegas 56.
The fight promised to be a no holds barred affair and it delivered, two of the heaviest-handed fighters at heavyweight squared off in the octagon, bombs were going off all over the place and the contest barely lasted 2:12 seconds.
Jairzinho was the first one to open fire with two kicks and a left roundhouse, the Russian absorbed the punishment well, at times his legs were like chewing gum, but he stood his ground, showed good jaw and physical endurance.
Volkov prepared the punch, aimed and a right hand put in bad conditions Rozenstruik, who leaned on the fence to avoid falling, Volkov (35-10 MMA, 9-4 UFC) became a machine to throw punches and the referee Herb Dean decided to end the actions. For many, Jairzinho (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) was able to stay in the fight, as he didn’t look in bad condition.
