A parade to celebrate Argentina’s World Cup triumph was called off by authorities after millions of people took to the street, which forced the Argentine Football Federation to organize an impromptu aerial return.

It seems the decision was made after two fans jumped off an overpass in an attempt to get on the bus with the players, with the decision to abruptly end things made soon after in order to avoid similar problems.

The Albiceleste fans took over all the roads in Buenos Aires, forcing the World Cup celebration route to change several times. Given the sheer amount of people that surrounded the Argentine bus, authorities and the AFA had to maneuver to find a quick solution.

The two fans tried to get on the bus at the intersection between Avenida General Paz and Autopista Ricchieri. One of them managed to fall on top of the open-air bus, but the other fell to the ground and is injured.

As a result the players were put into several helicopters and flown over the Obelisk so they could see the crowd that had gathered to see them. They stopped the coach in an area where the players could change vehicles without causing problems and proceeded to perform the so-called “aerial Olympic lap”. Once the helicopters had flown over downtown Buenos Aires, they returned to Ezeiza, where the meeting with Argentina president Alberto Fernandez will take place.
