According to police, at least five people were killed in a shooting on a hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Wednesday. According to a Facebook post by police, the shooter is also dead.

Authorities responded to a call about a man armed with a rifle at the Natalie Medical Building, a physicians’ office building on the St. Francis Hospital campus.

“At this point, we can confirm the shooter is dead,” police said in the post, although it was not clear whether the shooter committed suicide or was gunned down by police. “Officers are currently going through every room in the building checking for additional threats,” the post added.

Police were clearing the building and evacuating victims on “multiple floors”, according to police spokesman Richard Meulenberg, who added that there are “hundreds of rooms and hundreds of people within the building.”

Quick police response to active shooter

Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said on Twitter that officers responded to a “active shooter incident” near East 61st Street and South Yale Avenue in Tulsa, near Saint Francis Hospital.

“Please stay away from the area and yield to all emergency vehicles as we deal with this response,” Chief Franklin said.

The Tulsa Police Department announced on Twitter that a reunification site for families had been established at Memorial High School.

The shooting occurred just eight days after a mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, killed 19 students and two teachers, and 18 days after a gunman killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
