The recent air attacks on Israel and the threat of further missiles being launched on Tel Aviv have seen Atletico Madrid‘s scheduled friendly with Juventus suspended.

Atleti were due to take on the Old Lady at 20:30 in their final pre-season game before opening their LaLiga Santander campaign against Getafe on August 15.

The Spanish side were scheduled to fly to Israel at 12:30 on Saturday, though they have now had their plans change. Instead, Diego Simeone‘s side have trained on Saturday morning without then heading to the airport.

Israeli media had reported on Friday that the game was at risk or not being played, while there was also speculation of a change of venue. Now, it’s possible that the two sides will make other plans completely although Turin is being discussed as a new venue.

Atletico Madrid want to play another match before their competitive season begins on August 15, and there is still a chance that they will reach an agreement with Juventus to play at another venue on another date.

If they cannot organise a rearranged clash with the Serie A side, they will seek another opponent.

Juventus had been sceptical about the game due to the situation in Israel, and Atletico‘s decision not to travel confirmed that the match would not go ahead as planned.
