Barcelona congratulated Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde last night for reaching the World Cup final in Qatar with France. The Catalan club boasted about the quality of its squad as it will be the fourth tournament in a row to feature a Blaugrana player in the final, something that has never happened before.

Of the 17 Barcelona players to feature at the tournament, the French are the only ones who will be competing on Sunday. The Catalan club highlighted that of the last 13 finals, there have been Blaugrana players in eight, but above all, they pointed out that they have never chained together so many in a row (4).

Record

At Russia 2018, Barcelona had three representatives: Samuel Umtiti and Dembele for France and Ivan Rakitic for Croatia. Les Bleus emerged victorious.

In 2014, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano played in the final in Brazil against Germany, which the Germans won. And in South Africa 2010, Barcelona had eight players as Spain played in the final against the Netherlands. Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, David Villa, Xavi, Sergio Busquets, Pedro and Victor Valdes lifted the trophy.

In the 2006 final between Italy and France, on the other hand, there was no Barcelona player.

The fact Barcelona players will feature in Sunday’s final in Qatar shows that there is no shortage of talent at the team.
