Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the progress and performance of the 17 players they have in the different national teams participating in the World Cup in Qatar. Ronald Araujo is one of them and perhaps the one they are most concerned about in the short term.

The central defender went to the soccer event without being medically cleared from the thigh injury he sustained on September 24. The problem even forced him to undergo surgery.

The defender, who traveled with Blaugrana professionals who are supervising his recovery, is progressing very well, but Barcelona fear that his national team is forcing his return. He left on the condition that he would not play the early matches of the competition.

Barcelona have spoken to the Uruguayan federation and has asked them to be extremely cautious. And they have also threatened to go to FIFA if they jeopardize the health of their professional.

“In principle, Ronald is working better every day, he is evolving,” said Uruguayan coach Diego Alonso on Wednesday.

“His body will tell us when he is fit.

“He is progressing and we are very happy with how he is doing.”

The Uruguayan national team will face South Korea this Thursday, but the Camp Nou bosses do not expect Araujo’s participation in that match or in the next ones.

Yes, with conditions

Xavi gave his approval for the defender to go to the World Cup because he understood that, psychologically, it would be positive for his recovery. But in no case do Barcelona expect him to be playing yet.

Barcelona are, therefore, confident that Araujo will not play, but are on alert and somewhat concerned. In fact, as reported by RAC 1, Uruguay refused to sign the document sent by Barcelona certifying that he was going to the World Cup only to join the group and that he would not take part in the first matches of the tournament.

The Catalan club is considering making a formal complaint to FIFA if Uruguay give Araujo minutes earlier than agreed. This has already been communicated to the Uruguayan Federation and the Blaugrana consider it a warning.
