There was bad news for Real Madrid on Saturday morning regarding Karim Benzema, as the striker did not start the training session with his teammates ahead of El Clasico. He will, therefore, be missing on Sunday night at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The Frenchman had to ask to come off last Monday towards the end of Real Madrid‘s game against Real Mallorca. He felt discomfort and went to the bench, which caused concern, but there was hope that he’d be fit for the match against Barcelona after he made some positive comments after the match.
Friday’s tests at Valdebebas were positive, which was a boost to Carlo Ancelotti. However, this Sunday he didn’t feel fit enough and thus didn’t take to the training pitch with the rest of the team.
Real Madrid lose their main attacking threat against Barcelona. The Blaugrana are Benzema‘s fourth favourite side to score against, bagging 11 goals in his career against the Catalans, while they are the side he has provided most assists against, with 10.
