Ollie Watkins’ half-time substitution during Aston Villa’s 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday has caused fire sales in FPL teams ahead of Gameweek 31.

The England striker came off with a hamstring injury and with a trip to Manchester City up next and no double gameweeks for the Villans over the run-in, FPL players may well have looked to transfer him out regardless.

So who are the best replacements? In conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub’s powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top Watkins alternatives and their predicted points for FPL Gameweek 31.

Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez has great prospects for the run-in. His Liverpool side take on Sheffield United on Thursday, with Nunez assisting from the bench in the reverse fixture, and also have two promising fixtures in Double Gameweek 34.

He ranks second only to Erling Haaland for big chances on goal this season with 29 and has hit a double digit score on three occasions. With two goals and one assist in his last four starts for Liverpool, Nunez is a key player in their front three.

Alexander Isak

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been in fine form since returning from injury, with three goals and one assist in four starts. With teammate Callum Wilson injured, he’s set for a solid stint as the Magpies’ main striker if he can stay fit, completing 90 minutes in his last two games.

Isak’s 14 goals for the campaign ranks him fourth among forwards and is an impressive tally given he’s made only 21 of 29 possible appearances. Opponents Everton haven’t kept a clean sheet in two months, conceding eight goals in their last four matches.

Dominic Solanke

Dominic Solanke and Bournemouth are back in form after a challenging spell. The striker has returned goals in consecutive games, taking him up to 16 this season, and the Cherries are unbeaten in their last four Premier League outings.

They beat upcoming opponents Crystal Palace 2-0 in the reverse fixture, but Solanke failed to notch an attacking return in that game. However, the Eagles are without first choice goalkeeper Sam Johnstone through injury and have conceded five goals in the last four gameweeks.
