The
head coach Bill Belichick is usually known for his dour demeanor and for being something of a curmudgeon in the NFL world, but every once in a while he brings out a personality that is rarely talked about in the media.
Now it was Peyton Manning, the retired NFL QB, who shared a curious anecdote related to Belichick during his ESPN Manning Cast. During the Monday Night Football game between the Patriots and the Arizona Cardinals, Manning recalled something he experienced with Belichick when he shared a locker room with the coach at the 2006 Pro Bowl.
He wanted to bring Pamela Anderson to the game
Manning said, “At that time, Bill chose David Binn, who at the time was dating Pamela Anderson, as his long snapper, because he thought we other players would like to see Pamela in the pool in Hawaii.
And he recalled, “In the end, Pamela never showed up in Hawaii, but it’s a cool Belichick story that almost no one knows about.”
During the program, Peyton also told another little-known anecdote about the Pats coach, although he didn’t live it, but it was told to him. It also happened during a Pro Bowl, but it occurred right after Belichick’s tenure as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
He forced his former boss to pay a million dollars.
Manning told the story: “One time, he picked Peter Boulware because he knew that Art Modell (Browns owner) would have to pay Boulware a million-dollar bonus if Boulware made the Pro Bowl. So he picked him and made Modell have to pay. Belichick hated Modell,” he said.
Belichick has coached the AFC team to the Pro Bowl several times, in 1998, 2006 and 2010. The 1998 anecdote was the first year Boulware reached the Pro Bowl, the same ones he would repeat three more times thanks to Belichick, who was fired by Modell three years earlier.
