After Frances Tiafoe became the third American to defeat Rafael Nadal, advancing to the quarter-finals of the US Open, he thanked his “favorite NBA player” Bradley Beal for showing his support by attending Monday’s match.

During his postgame interview, Tiafoe was in shock and in tears, saying he had no idea how he pulled off the victory.

“One of my favorite basketball players in the NBA, Bradley Beal, was able to watch this, that means a lot to me,” Tiafoe said.

The incredible upset sends Tiafoe to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the second time in his career, first time being at the 2019 Australian Open.

Beal, however, was not the only NBA player to cheer on Tiafoe, or to congratulate him after upetting Nadal.

Like Beal, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was also in Tiafoe’s box throughout the match, and a couple other NBA players celebrated the win via social media.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James took to Twitter to celebrate Tiafoe’s win, calling him a “young king” and telling him to “strive for greatness.”

James has been keeping up with the US Open since before Serena Williams played her final match, and it seems he’s still watching the tournament.

Another NBA star who celebrated Tiafoe’s win was Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid.

Embiid simply tweeted “Frances Tiafoe” moments after the upset over Nadal left him in tears.
