Brazil failed to live up to expectations as the 2022 World Cup favorites were knocked out from the tournament after losing on penalties to Croatia in the quarter-finals.
The last time the Selecao managed to go all the way to the trophy was back in 2002, when they beat Germany in the final to win their fifth World Cup.

Following their latest disappointing tournament, several changes are expected in terms of coaching staff and squad.
Who will be Tite’s replacement?
As was announced in an interview back in February, Tite will not stay at the team.
In November, though, the Brazilian Football Federation vice-president (CBF) Francisco Novelletto stressed that he would try to convince Tite to stay put in the event Brazil won the World Cup.
Tite‘s intention is to take a sabbatical year. In his six years at the Selecao, he recorded 60 wins, 15 draws and just one defeat in 81 matches, in which Brazil scored 174 goals and conceded 30.
The Brazil coach was heavily criticized after Brazil failed to win the tournament, with his son Matheus and his assistant Cleber Xavier also expected to depart.
Abel Fereira (Palmeiras), Fernando Diniz (Fluminense), Mano Menezes (Internacional) and Dorival Junior (free agent) have been named as his potential successors.
Ednaldo Rodrigues in charge
The new CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues is now expected to make big decisions. He is thinking of bringing in Andres Sanchez, who could replace Juninho Paulista as team coordinator. Rodrigues will also decide on Tite‘s successor.
“We will discuss it after the World Cup, but we have no nationality prejudices,” he said at an event.
The two requirements for the next coach are to be competent and eager to take on a long-term project.
Brazil’s dressing room changes
Young players such as Eder Militao, Lucas Paqueta, Vinicius and Richarlison are settling in, while Casemiro is still 30 year old.
However, the futures of Brazil legends such as Thiago Silva and Dani Alves remain uncertain.
The former admitted that he won’t be available for the 2026 World Cup, but didn’t rule out featuring in the next Copa America.
Meanwhile, Dani Alves hasn’t made clear whether he plans to retire any time soon.
“My future now? To suffer,” he said after the elimination.
Brazil are concerned because Neymar is also reportedly considering stepping aside.
“If I say it’s the end, I’d be rushing, but I’m not guaranteeing anything either,” the Paris Saint-Germain star said.
It could, therefore, be a very different Brazil side that goes to the 2026 World Cup in North America.
