After it was announced that Brittney Griner was transferred to one of those feared Russian penal colonies, there was no specification to where she was taken. Currently, there is no public knowledge of Brittney Griner’s whereabouts and people in America are starting to get restless. Everybody fears her life is in actual danger, especially considering how poor the conditions are inside those penal colonies. Both the United States Government and Griner’s representatives remain active in their pursuit for her release.

But the situation is getting more difficult by the minute, the former WNBA star is probably going through the worst moment of her life since she got to Russia. All the media coverage is almost minimal at this point and attention to the matter from local authorities is pretty much non-existent. To Russia, Griner is already doing her sentence and she should fulfill it. A deeply troubling scenario that already got attention from the WNBA Players’ Association. They released a statement where they condemn treatment Griner has been getting in that country.

Brittney Griner says she had no intention to break law

The WNBA PA is deeply concerned for Griner

In a short but strong statement, the WNBA’s Players’ Association made it clear they are still working to force Brittney Griner’s release. This is what their official Twitter account posted earlier on Thursday: “We stand with Brittney Griner and will continue to call on all Americans and the global sports community to do the same with even more vigilance. We are crushed that this scary, seemingly never-ending nightmare continues. The lack of clarity and transparency in the process compounds the pain.”

Earlier this week, the White House Press Secretary was also asked about Griner and she offered her full support to the former WNBA star. Karine Jean-Pierre also wrote this on her official Twitter account: “Every minute that Brittney Griner must endure wrongful detention in Russia is a minute too long. As the Administration continues to work tirelessly to secure her release, the President has directed the Administration to prevail on her Russian captors to improve her treatment and the conditions she may be forced to endure in a penal colony.”
