Brittney Griner remains in custody in Russia after being arrested back in February when customs officials found hash oil in her luggage at an airport near Moscow.
The WNBA star was nine years in prison for drug smuggling, but US authorities are hopeful that she will return home through a prisoner exchange in the near future.
After coming out as lesbian, Griner got engaged to fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson in 2014, but the two women decided to get a divorce one year later.
“You can call me stupid for believing her, but I trusted this person,” Glory said about her turbulent relationship with Griner.
In 2018, Griner got engaged with her current wife Cherelle Watson, a Law student at North Carolina Central University School of Law.
“I will never forget the day I met you at Baylor,” Griner said of Watson in an Instagram post back in 2020.
“You tapped me on my shoulder and told me I took your milkshake (still up for debate lol) and I was immediately blown away at your beauty!
“You had no idea but I knew you were the one for me baby. You stuck by my side at the lowest and at the highest! Your love never wavered with me at any point if anything it grew and you have showed me how to love and how to be loved!”
