Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett ruined what could have been an epic finish to the Russell Wilson revenge game against former team Seattle Seahawks in their 2022 NFL season opener.

In his return to Lumen Field on Monday, Wilson threw for 340 yards on 29-for-42 completions and one touchdown pass.

With 55 seconds left in the game, Wilson had the opportunity to keep the drive alive on 4th & 5 but Hackett let the clock wind down to 20 before calling a timeout.

Broncos had all three timeouts remaining and were just past the 50-yard line into Seahawks territory.

Wilson should have been given the opportunity to convert a first down, but Hackett instead decided to attempt what would have been the second-longest field goal make in league history.

Gino Smith shines against Russell Wilson

While Wilson went 1-for-5 on red zone trips, Gino Smith played a brilliant game for Seattle.

Smith threw for 195 yards on 23-for-28 completions and two touchdown passes.

Despite a couple of fumbles from each side, both teams looked solid on defense and attack, but Broncos will need to clean up giving up penalties.

On the bright side, for Wilson, he found an excellent offensive weapon in Jerry Jeudy, who got 104 yards on just four receptions.

Broncos take on the Houston Texans next Sunday while Seahawks face the San Francisco 49ers.
