Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez seemingly threatened Argentina soccer superstar Lionel Messi with violence for allegedly stomping on a Mexico jersey after the team’s World Cup win.

In a video of the Argentine side celebrating their first victory of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Messi can be seen slightly kicking the Mexico jersey as he attempted to remove his cleats.

Canelo took the situation out of proportion by going to Twitter to express his frustration with Messi.

“Did you guys see Messi cleaning the floor with our jersey and flag,” Alvarez tweeted. “He better pray to God that I don’t find him.

“Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico! I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls–t that Messi did.”

Did Messi really step on the Mexican flag?

Alvarez might have just been told of what Messi did before furiously posting his tweets because there is no Mexico flag in sight throughout the entire clip.

It’s actually quite obvious that Messi never meant to kick the Mexico jersey lying on the ground.

The Mexico jersey was probably on the floor because of the euphoria running through the players’ bodies in celebration.

It’s unclear which Mexico player swapped the jersey with Messi, but it’s evident that “The Magic Man” is innocent of what Canelo claims.
