Saul “Canelo” Alvarez continues to rehab from his left wrist surgery and is expected to start throwing punches by mid January, so he’s hopeful to have a fight in May and then seek a rematch against Dmitry Bivol in September.
The Mexican clarified during an interview with La Saga, that if a rematch against the Russian is agreed, it’ll be at the same weight as their first fight, which was light heavyweight.
Canelo thinks he can beat Bivol in that weight class and assures that he lost because he couldn’t train to his fullest during the weeks leading up to the bout.
“Of course I can (beat Bivol), it’s not a matter of believing in it, I know I can beat him”.
Canelo doesn’t think he’s being stubborn wanting to face Bivol
Dmitry Bivol looked very dominant over Canelo in their first fight and Mexican boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez thinks that Canelo shouldn’t look for a rematch, because he has no chance beating the Russian in a light heavyweight bout.
Canelo said he respects Julio Cesar Chavez a lot, but his priority is to fight against Bivol, the fighter who handed him his second professional loss.
“I respect Chavez, I will always respect him, he knows that, but in the end it’s not about what he wants”.
He added that if he wants a rematch is because he is sure he can be victorious.
“Is something I want to do and I know I can win. I know how I entered the ring the last time, I know what I can do and I will do it”, Alvarez added.
Canelo thinks he can win a rematch against Bivol
Despite losing the first fight between them, Canelo thinks he can beat Dmitry Bivol in a rematch as he thinks he did a good fight, being competitive and just lacked a couple of rounds in his favor to win the bout.
“Due to not being able to have a proper training, I win the first rounds and then I start getting tired.”
Canelo thinks that Bivol showed his best, while he can still improve for a rematch.
