Saul Canelo Alvarez defeated Gennady Golovkin by unanimous decision, but in the end it was not all honey, the Mexican will have to undergo surgery on his left hand and could be out of training for about six weeks.

Canelo defeated Triple G, but not by knockout as promised. In the final interview he was asked what had happened to him that he didn’t throw too many power punches, Alvarez surprised by saying that he has several months with a problem in his left hand and that he will take some time to recover and rest.

“I have to have surgery on my hand. They have to do a cleaning on my hand, it will be with laser and it will take me six weeks of recovery.”

“I couldn’t train one hundred percent, I couldn’t prepare well because of my hand, boxing is throwing punches and in training I couldn’t.”

The injury comes from several fights ago

Canelo commented that the discomfort in his hand comes from the fight against Caleb Plant and even this last fight with Golovkin. This is that against Dmitry Bivol he was already hurt.

“Since Caleb Plant I had the injury, but because of carelessness you let time pass, you think that nothing is going to happen. But there’s the result, I don’t like to lose”.
