Early Monday morning, Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney was killed in a traffic accident.
Brian Overstreet, the player’s agent, confirmed the sad news in a statement to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
“We ask for prayers for the family and privacy at this difficult time,” he said.
Cleared of charges
Last March and after a jury found him not guilty of an assault charge, Gladney had signed with the Cardinals.
“We are devastated after learning of Jeff Gladney’s passing. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who mourn this tremendous loss,” the Cardinals said in a statement.

In 2020, Gladney was a first-round pick out of TCU acquired by the Minnesota Vikings.
He started 15 of 16 games in his first NFL season, with three passes defended, one forced fumble and 81 tackles, but did not play in 2021.
However, as his issues with the law were revealed, the team decided to release him in August 2021.
Sad farewell
Upon learning of the death, Jalen Reagor, wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles and Gladney’s former teammate at TCU, dedicated a few words to him on social media.
“I lost my brother, my best friend, my right hand man…there’s not much more I can take, damn it! R.I.P Jeff Gladney, brother take care of me please,” he stated.
