Real Madrid began their Champions League campaign in style, as a trio of goals after the restart saw them sink Celtic 3-0.

The victory is Carlo Ancelotti‘s first at Celtic Park, having lost all three of his previous visits while at the helm of AC Milan.

However, it wasn’t all good news for the tactician, as star striker Karim Benzema was forced off in the first half with a suspected knee injury.

Celtic started strongly, with the first real chance falling to Liel Abada.

After being played in on goal by a brilliant Jota pass, the forward could only send his effort straight at Thibaut Courtois.

The home side continued to put the pressure on the reigning European Champions, but Callum McGregor‘s smashed effort from the edge of the area could only find the inside of the post.

As mentioned, Real Madrid were forced to shuffle their attack when Karim Benzema limped off after 30 minutes with what looked to be a knee injury. He was replaced by Eden Hazard.

Despite a fast-paced opening 45 minutes, the two teams headed into the half level at 0-0.

However, that quickly changed after the restart as Carlo Ancelotti‘s men finally broke through in the 56th minute.

Federico Valverde spearheaded a clinical Real Madrid counter down the right, and his low cross found an unmarked Vinicius at the back post.

The Brazilian calmly slotted home, silencing the energetic home crowd.

Real Madrid doubled their lead just four minutes later through the ageless Luka Modric, who fired home with ease from inside the six yard box to send the away side on their way.

Ancelotti’s men wrapped up proceedings in style with a little over 10 minutes remaining. Los Blancos strung together 33 passes, with Kroos‘ ball over the top finding Dani Carvajal.

The Spaniard’s cross found Hazard, and the Belgian capped off the stylish display of passing by tapping home his first goal of the campaign.
