Chelsea bounced back from their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in midweek with a 6-0 rout away at Southampton.

Thomas Tuchel criticised his side’s lacklustre display in the Champions League quarter final first leg, and the player’s clearly were intent on responding.

The German made four changes to the starting XI in the Champions League line-up, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Marcos Alonso, Mateo Kovacic and Timo Werner coming in for Reece James, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho and Christian Pulisic.

Already in the first half, Chelsea scored four goals through Alonso, Mason Mount, Werner and Kai Havertz.

Despite these four goals, the home team’s best player was goalkeeper Fraser Forster, making several stops to prevent the scoreline from being even worse.

Within the first few minutes of the second half, Chelsea were gifted two more goals, with Werner and Mount the grateful recipients.

From then on, Chelsea began to conserve energy with their minds very much switching to the return leg against Real Madrid.
