The City of Chicago started the Fourth of July with the Highland Park parade but it had to be stopped quickly due to an active shooter situation at around 10:10 a.m. Local officials confirmed that at least five people have been killed, at least 19 have been wounded and the shooter’ situation is unknown.
In a video reported by a Sun-Times journalist, there is a band on a float still playing right after the gunfire was heard that continued to play despite the chaos. Downtown Highland Park had a few pools of blood close to where the incident happened, a photo was posted on social media about the incident.

According to the information provided by local officials, there have been at least five people shot with several people running with blood on their clothing as they attempted to seek protection. The police responded to the incident quickly but they weren’t immediately available to speak to the press.

The Lake County Sheriff’s office is alerting all citizens to stay clear of the area because it’s still dangerous for civilians. City leaders also confirmed that the scheduled Fourth Fest has been cancelled, more information will be shared as it becomes available.
According to the schedule for the day, the Highland Park parade was supposed to feature multiple floats, marching bands, novelty groups, community entries and other types of entertainment. People were comfortably sitting down during the uploaded video when they immediately started running on the opposite direction the pareade was going. According to local authorities, the shooter hasn’t been aprehended yet.
