Ciryl Gane showed a lot against Tai Tuivasa in the UFC Paris main event bout. Gane, though, nearly suffered a second-round KO when Tuivasa landed a punch that knocked down the one-time interim heavyweight champion.

Just when it looked like an upset might be on the cards, the Frenchman recovered and brought out his best kicking.

He finished off his comeback in the third round with dodges and a series of punches to his opponent’s face that clinched the fight.

Derek Brunson said of the Frenchman that he looked like “a heavyweight Jon Jones”.

The best thing about ‘Bon Gamin’ was not only his recovery, but that he knew at all times where he wanted to take the fight and how he could do more damage. Strategically he was right.

Francis Ngannou also had words of praise for his former rival, although he noted that he was not overly impressed either.

“I know he’s a great fighter,” Ngannou said on the ESPN+ post-fight show.

“It’s hard to respond to that question for the guy that I beat, if I’m impressed with him. He’s here for a reason. I fought him for a reason, because he was probably the No. 1 contender.

“Yes, he’s good. But, I’m the champ. So, it’s really hard to be impressed.”

The truth is that from what we saw of Gane, a new duel against ‘The Predator’ is looking a better and better prospect.
