The much-anticipated showdown between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is on hold as the Portuguese star is sidelined due to injury.

Ronaldo, who was expected to feature in the friendly match between Al Nassr and Inter Miami, has been struggling with a left calf injury.

Unfortunately, the injury has proven too challenging for the prolific forward to overcome, forcing him to miss the upcoming clash.

Cancelled China tour

Rumors of Ronaldo‘s potential absence started circulating last Tuesday when Al Nassr officially announced the suspension of their tour of China, citing “Cristiano Ronaldo‘s physical condition” as the reason. The Portuguese player addressed the situation, expressing his regret.

“I apologize to all the Chinese fans,” Ronaldo said.

“I know that everyone is sad, and so am I, but as you know, in football, there are things that cannot be controlled.”

Fans were eagerly anticipating the meeting between Ronaldo and Messi on the pitch, but it seems they will have to wait a little longer for this epic encounter as Ronaldo focuses on his recovery from the injury.

Inter Miami are currently in the middle of their pre-season and looking to have a much better domestic campaign than they did last year.

Al Nassr are halfway through their Saudi Pro League season, and have a lot of work to do if they are to overtake Al Hilal at the top.
