The injury in the thumb of the right hand of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is very serious, as he will require surgery and will miss six to eight games, so “America’s Team” has not ruled out any option for someone to take his place on a temporary basis.

Much has been said in the media about the option of San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, to come to the team of owner Jerry Jones, however, another option of someone who wore that jersey and like Jimmy G took the Bay Area team to a Super Bowl, the controversial Colin Kaepernick.

Michael Irvin vs. Colin Kaepernick

While Kaepernick’s advantage over Garoppolo is that he wouldn’t cost the Cowboys draft picks as compensation, the big disadvantage is that he hasn’t been in the NFL for the past five seasons, which is why Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is completely against such an idea, as he said while appearing on ESPN’s First Take.

“Let’s stop with this Colin Kaepernick stuff. Let’s just stop.Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for what five years now,” Irvin said. “Come on, man. Let’s stop all of a sudden thinking we can go resurrect Colin Kaepernick and he’s going to come and resurrect a football team.”

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys prefer a current roster option to acquiring someone on the outside, with the leader of that group being Cooper Rush, who took the place of the injured Prescott during the fourth quarter of the loss to the Buccaneers, Irvin agrees.

Do the Cowboys prefer Cooper Rush?

“I’ll take my chances with Cooper Rush,” Irvin said. “I saw Cooper Rush win a football game last year. That’s all I’m saying.”

The Cowboys will look for their first win of the season when they take on the Cincinnati Bengals at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 18.
