After the chaotic events that took place in Las Vegas that prompted the first ever UFC press conference cancellation, UFC 279 will be a completely different event: Nate Diaz will fight Tony Ferguson in a battle of company legends; and Khamzat Chimaev will face off against Kevin Holland.
Dana White spoke on the matter and had the following to say in a video released by UFC:
“Obviously, when something like this happens, you have guys who trained for another guy for a long time. Getting these guys to agree on different can be tough. Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson, the fans have wanted to see this one forever. And it’s going to happen now before Nate leaves the UFC. Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev actually got into it backstage yesterday, and ironically they will now fight on Saturday night. Both fights will be 5 rounds. Li Jingliang vs Daniel Rodriguez is also a fun fight. It literally could not have played out any better”.

White is not the man who pulled off the new UFC 279 card
Apparently, the man who pulled this sensational last-minute switcheroo which sees Diaz go out against a fighter of his caliber, and has a face-off happening between two fighters with new beef in Holland and Chimaev is actually Hunter Campbell. According to UFC reporter Ariel Helwani, it is actually the Chief Business Officer of UFC who helped pull the strings to make things actually happen and get the fighters to agree.
