San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel has officially been ruled out from the team’s penultimate game of the 2022 NFL regular season, making it the third consecutive contest he’ll miss.

Samuel, 26, returned to practice earlier this week for the first time since sustaining MCL and ankle sprains against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 11.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel “has a chance” of playing in the season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Week 18 home game will likely just serve as a warmup for Samuel to get some reps before the postseason.

If the 49ers win out, they can still get the top seed in the NFC. For that to happen, however, the Philadelphia Eagles must go winless and Minnesota Vikings need to notch less than 13 total wins.

Niners at Raiders

Samuel won’t be available against the Las Vegas Raiders (6-9) Sunday, but the team will be fine without him.

Derek Carr has officially been benched for Las Vegas, who will be replaced by Jarett Stidham.

The 49ers defense continues to smother opponents, while quarterback Brock Purdy has proven that he can lead the offense.

Running back Christian McCaffrey will probably get the lion’s share of the touches against Las Vegas.
