The six-game suspension that NFL disciplinary officer Sue. L Robinson suggested for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson has not left Commissioner Roger Goodell satisfied, who on Tuesday spoke on the issue and gave his reasons for the NFL’s decision to appeal the decision.
“We’ve seen the evidence, she was very clear about the evidence, she reinforced the evidence,” Goodell said. “There were multiple violations that were egregious and it was predatory behavior.”

Who will hear the appeal of Deshaun Watson’s punishment?
Last week, Goodell decided not to be the one to hear the appeal of this case and to designate Peter C. Harvey as the one responsible for hearing the appeal that seeks to make the penalty more severe, however, the Commissioner does not know when a decision will be made, although only six games does not seem fair to him and he says Watson’s actions would merit a suspension of at least one season.
NFL team owners are meeting in an extraordinary meeting in Bloomington, Minnesota to formally approve the new owner of the Denver Broncos, however, that formality generated perhaps the least interest when the media spoke with Goodell, who also addressed the Miami Dolphins suspension.
Goodell’s stance on the Miami Dolphins punishment
“Well several things, the integrity of the game is critically important,” Goodell said. “I think the findings are very clear … and while tanking clearly did not happen here, we all have to understand our words, our actions have implications and we have to be careful.”
It should be recalled that the NFL decided to suspend Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, fine him $1.5 million, take away two draft picks and also fine and suspend vice chairman/limited partner Bruce Beal $500,000.
The NFL began its preseason last Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game and next Thursday will begin the first of three weeks of preparatory games to kick off the highly anticipated regular season next September.
