The tragedy that generated upheaval in the NFL world surrounding the death of former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who was run over while mysteriously crossing Interstate 595 very near Fort Lauderdale, Florida early in the morning, has found some answers to the doubts generated due to the 24-year-old passer’s demise.

Haskins had run out of gas

According to an emergency 911 call made by the quarterback’s wife, Kalabrya, and obtained by TMZ, her husband was walking down the road before being hit by a dump truck looking for help as he had run out of gas in his car.

“I kept calling and kept calling,” Kalabyra’s agitated voice could be heard. “He wasn’t answering. Eventually, after 10 minutes of calling the phone, eventually it cut off. It’s not working now. I had his location. I just want somebody to go in the area and see if his car is there and if he’s OK and if anything happened to him.”

Dwayne and Kalabrya had spoken prior to the tragedy

According to this story, Dwayne and Kalabrya had spoken before she crossed the road and Kalabrya had promised to return the call when she found someone to help her with the gas issue, that call never came, while she couldn’t contain her concern and so she made the 911 call from Pittsburgh.

The 911 operator asked Kalabrya not to panic, especially since an accident had already been reported on Interstate 595, at which time it had not been confirmed what later became known, that Haskins had been the victim.

Haskins was training in South Florida

The quarterback was in South Florida, training with several of his Steelers teammates prior to the start of formal work with the team.

Haskins came to the NFL in after being selected 15th overall in the 2019 Draft by the then Washington Redskins, now Washington Football Team, spent two seasons with the team in the U.S. capital before joining the Steelers last year.
