Dwyane Wade wants his 15-year old transgender daughter to be able to change her name from Zion Malachi Airamis Wade to Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade, and this Thursday he filed a petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court.
The former NBA star player stated in the documents that he has full authority to make decision on behalf of his daughter, and also that he made his former wife, Siohvaughn Funches, aware of the petition as a courtesy.
The court paperwork states that Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade lives in Hidden Hills.
Dwyane Wade has fully supported his daughter
During an appearance on “The Ellen Show,” back in 2020, the former NBA player confirmed that his daughter had started to use she/her pronouns.
He recalled when at 12 years old, Zion came to him at home one day and said he wanted to talk about something, and it was to ask to be called Zaya.
“We’re just trying to figure out as much information as we can to make sure that we give our child the best opportunity to be her best self,” Wade said during the interview at the show.
Dwyane Wade has been married to actress Gabrielle Union since 2014.
