The Indianapolis Colts (3-5-1) drew criticism from NFL fans on Monday when they appointed Jeff Saturday as interim head coach following the sacking of Frank Reich.
Saturday, 47, is a former NFL center and current sports analyst with no collegiate or professional coaching experience.
He was chosen to over a handful of Black coaches currently excelling in the league as offensive or defensive coordinators.
Brian Flores, a linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, would virtually be the best overall option, but his lawsuit involving the Miami Dolphins may put off teams.
NFL teams obviously can’t begin to interview head coaching candidates until the final two weeks of the regular season, but these Black coaches should definitely be in the sights of the Indy franchise.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.
Buffalo Bills assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.
Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams.
Bonus option: Deion Sanders
Even though Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders has been adamant about not wanting to coach in the NFL, every team in the league would be fortunate to have him.
Sanders, 55, has made JSU a winning program, but he doesn’t believe he would be able to keep his cool with grown men earning millions of dollars to play a game.
Still, Sanders could change his mind if the situation, and the money, is right.
For now, Saturday will look to keep a sinking Colts ship afloat for the remaining of the season.
If he doesn’t prove to be a winner, Indianapolis must contact one of these Black NFL coaches.
