The 2021/22 campaign is drawing to a close and Barcelona are already making plans for next season, as Xavi Hernandez has a clear idea about the positions he wants to strengthen.

Xavi has also informed the club about which players are not in his plans, and Frenkie de Jong is not in that list.

The Dutchman is an undisputed starter, but the club are aware that his departure could bring in as much as 70 million euros for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona wished De Jong happy birthday on Thursday while they are dealing with his future, with Manchester United being interested in acquiring his services.

His contract expires in 2026, but Barcelona‘s financial struggles may force them to cash in on the Netherlands international in the summer.

De Jong has attracted interest from Germany and England and, although Barcelona understand that he is an important player, they are also aware that he has a high price tag.

Manchester City not in the race

A few days ago, the British media reported that Manchester City have made contact to sign the Dutchman, but MARCA have confirmed that there are not talks between the two parties.

De Jong, who joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019, has registered 45 appearances this season, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

The Dutch midfielder has adapted to the team and has always stressed that he feels happy in Catalonia.

Meanwhile, the coaching staff have praised both De Jong‘s professionalism and his talent, but given Barcelona‘s situation his future at the club remains uncertain.
