It’s clear that Canelo Alvarez‘s loss to Dmitry Bivol broke his streak and gave him some problems. Now, he’s preparing for a fight against Gennady Golovkin this weekend hoping to redeem himself again.
Doubts surround the Mexican since that loss to Bivol, and he is now lying in fifth place of The Ring’s list of the best boxers around. Oleksandr Usyk places first. Naoya Inoue, Terence Crawford and Errol Spence are also all above him.
Canelo has to do more than beat GGG to get back to the top. But he has to start with that.
Canelo knows that he has a lot to prove now, and he’s backing himself.
“You take risks and you choose the best fights, sometimes you might lose,” Canelo said about the Bivol fight, before changing tone. “But I’m happy to take these fights because they make me feel good.
“Losing is not an option for me now.”
Overcoming defeat to Mayweather
Canelo previously lost earlier in his career to Floyd Mayweather, and he had to bounce back then too.
“It was because of experience,” Canelo reflected. “If I compare that guy to the one I am today, they’re different people. ??”It would be a very different fight now. I’ve always said if I’d won that night then everything would’ve come my way. The fame, the money, and maybe it wouldn’t’ have worked out.
“It wasn’t my time.”
