Uvalde funeral homes initially refused to take the body of Texas school shooter Salvador Ramos, which resulted in his family searching for solutions.

The 18-year-old killed 19 kids and two teachers at Robb Elementary back on May 27, with an autopsy conducted on his body three days later.

However, after two Uvalde funeral homes refused to take him, Uvalde’s coroner Eulalio “Halo” Diaz Jr. told the Houston Chronicle that his remains were stored 150 miles away in a morgue in Lockhart.

“As the funerals for the victims were going on, I was still dealing with what to do with him,” said Diaz. “It was a stressful time.

“It took three, three and a half weeks to get him released to the family. They were fighting with each other.”

Diaz says Uvalde funeral homes were also dealing with the death of immigrants in a human-smuggling horror in June as well.

Ramos’ funeral arrangements were eventually handled by Castle Ridge in Crystal City, which is located 40 miles outside Uvalde.

He was later cremated on the edge of downtown San Antonio, more than 80 miles outside the city.
