When young players like Luke Knox unfortunately pass away, the entire football world in American sports mourns as they do today. As a player from Florida International, Knox was part of the special teams after playing two seasons as a linebacker for Ole Miss. The Brentwood, Tennessee native transferred to FIU this summer after four years at Ole Miss.
School officials announced he passed away due to undisclosed reasons on Wednesday evening. Luke was Buffalo Bills‘ Dawson Knox’s younger brother, meaning he came from a football family. Since the announcement was made, the entire football community in the United States started sending their condolences to the Knox family in this troubling time.
Coach MacIntyre pays his respect to Luke Knox
FIU coach Mike MacIntyre expressed his sorrow for losing one of his players at such an early age. He put out a statement that read as follows: “Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox. I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and FIU.
“While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember. He had a special way of making everyone around him feel comfortable and confident.” The rest of the FIU team was told about Luke‘s untimely death late on Wednesday, no cause of death has been revealed to the public yet.
Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott also spoke about the news and insisted the entire Bills organization is supporting Dawson Knox and his entire family in this challenging time. Dawson is currently in NFL pre-season camp but will take some time off in order to be with his relatives during the following days.
This is what the coach said: “My heart goes out to — our hearts go out to Dawson and his family during this time. We’re right there with him and supporting him and his family and just tragic news that I woke up to this morning. So we love him, and we support him and just unfortunate news this morning.”
