Gary Neville believes Manchester United fans are bored by the frustration of their run of form, after they drew 1-1 against Leicester City on Saturday.

United’s failure to win leaves them three points behind Arsenal, who are in fourth and hold the final Champions League spot for next season. Arsenal also have two games in hand on United.

“I think overall there are too many things at this club at this moment in time that are uncertain,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Talks around Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Cristiano Ronaldo, Edison Cavani, the new manager, Ralf Rangnick. Is he going to be a consultant at the end of the season, is he not.

“That was a really tough watch today. I’m not angry, I don’t think any Manchester United fans left the ground angry tonight, because we’ve gone probably past anger. We’re just flat, we’re bored.

“And there was nothing there today. I do genuinely believe players care, but they lack direction, and that comes from the very top.”

No Champions League for United

United have a relatively tough run-in for their final eight games, including away games at Liverpool and Arsenal, plus a home match against Chelsea. Neville thinks fourth place is now out of reach for the Red Devils.

“I think so,” said Neville when asked whether United would finish outside of the Champions League places.

“That was really bad out there today. I thought it [international break] might work for Manchester United, give them a little break from the club, come back and just have a right go in this last nine games.

“This is going to be a long two months for those Manchester United players and those Manchester United fans if they are going to play like that because it was really poor out there today.”

Ralf Rangnick decided to start the match against Leicester without a recognised striker, leaving Marcus Rashford on the bench before bringing him on for the final 35 minutes.

Neville on Marcus Rashford

Neville questioned the call, stating it was a big decision by Rangnick to leave out the England international.

“That’s killed Marcus Rashford today, that, not playing in that team,” added Neville.

“I know he’s been in poor form, I know he’s lacked confidence, but for Cristiano Ronaldo to pull out this morning, we’ve just heard, and then Paul Pogba to go in.

“And actually change the system of play and the way in which the game’s been approached, and not just put Marcus Rashford in as a straight swap having just trained with the players for the last 10 days.”
