Neither Zinedine Zidane nor Mauricio Pochettino will be taking the Chelsea job, with Graham Potter having been identified as the man to succeed Thomas Tuchel on the Blues’ bench.
The loss to Dinamo Zagreb proved to be Tuchel‘s last in the job, and now Chelsea are set to appoint Brighton coach Graham Potter.
According to several English media outlets, Chelsea and Potter have reached a verbal agreement. Todd Boehly will now have to negotiate with Brighton for the termination of his contract on the south coast of England.
It is thought that Potter‘s release clause is set at around 20 million euros, which would make him the second-most expensive coaching appointment, following the 25m euros that Bayern Munich paid to get Julian Nagelsmann out of his RB Leipzig contract.
Potter is Chelsea’s chosen one
Boehly is thought to have been impressed by Potter‘s work with the Seagulls, and they didn’t hesitate in calling the coach on the morning that Tuchel was dismissed.
Sky Sports say that those talks went well, and the Blues swiftly ruled out other options such as Pochettino and Zidane.
