The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Monday night that Ja Morant is out for the season due to a labrum tear in his right shoulder and confirmed he will undergo surgery.

Morant, 24, seemingly suffered the injury on Friday night late in a road win over the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins. He was sidelined Sunday against the Phoenix Suns due to soreness in his right shoulder.

JA Morant was welcomed back after 25 game suspension by th Memphis Grizzlies

Grizzlies were fortunate to defeat the Suns without Morant, who was a game-time decision, but sat on the bench with a sling on his shoulder.

Memphis started the 2023-24 NBA season with a 6-19 record and are 7-4 since their superstar returned from a 25-game suspension.

Why was Ja Morant suspended?

Morant missed the first 25 games of the season due to several instances of misconduct detrimental to the NBA.

He was suspended last year for eight games after flashing a weapon on social media and received the 25-game ban due to doing it again.

Now that injury will keep him off the court, the Grizzlies’ season is all but over. Truth is, though, even with Morant it would have been a tough task to improve their 13-23 record.
