Aaron Souttar was born on September 25, 1996 in Aberdeen to Jack and Heather Souttar. His father had previously been a professional player for Brechin City.
The mother’s side of the family hails from Australia. Souttar went to Mearns Academy in nearby Laurencekirk after attending Luthermuir Primary School when a child in the Aberdeenshire town of Luthermuir.
In 2002, Souttar began participating in games for Brechin City Boys Club (subsequently Brechin City Youths). The team, which was successful and included Ryan Gauld and Euan Spark, had his father as its coach.
The triplets continued their studies at coaching schools run by Ian Cathro in Dundee before joining Dundee United’s development program in 2006 at the age of nine.
