Michigan linebacker David Ojabo suffered a torn Achilles tendon during Friday’s pre-draft process as NFL scouts, coaches and other observers in attendance turned a blind eye while the 21-year-old laid on the ground grovelling in pain.

Former NFL cornerback Bucky Brooks posted the moment on Twitter and expressed his concern over the ‘cold business’ of football. In the video, a coach heads in Ojabo’s direction, seemingly to help, but instead grabs the ball and walks away without so much as a look in the injured player’s direction.

“I know the NFL is a cold business but watching the lack of concern or empathy from the scouts, coaches and observers following David Ojabo’s injury bugs me,” Brooks wrote. “Perhaps someone should’ve checked on him instead of grabbing the ball and moving to the next drill. Just a thought.”

History of racism in the NFL

The most recent issues when it comes to racism in the NFL include Brian Flores‘ lawsuit over alleged racial discrimination from the Miami Dolphis and the league when it comes to black coaches. A more famous case was Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the national anthem in protest of police brutality.

In his Netflix documentary series, Kaepernick compared the NFL Draft process to a slave trade, a point that resonates even more after Ojabo was left helpless on the ground during the latest phase of the strenuous pre-draft process. The NFL sees its players as merchandise and in Ojabo’s case, he is now damaged goods.
