While Floyd Mayweather will go down as one of the all-time boxing greats with a record of 50-0, the Michigan native’s recent spate of exhibition matches have started to raise questions about his finances.
The boxer, who is notorious for his lavish spending, officially retired from boxing after his much-publicized fight against MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
However, since then Mayweather has appeared in a series of exhibition matches, with the American’s former rival Ricky Hatton wondering if he was broke.
A circus
“I don’t get it,” Hatton told WBN.
“Indeed, he’s made enough money. Is he skint, or is it greed? “I think his latest YouTuber [Deji] has won one and lost three, something like that. I mean, come on. Who wants to watch that?
“It’s making a mockery of boxing.”
Mayweather and gambling
The unbeaten boxer have previously opened up about his gambling problems stating that his urge to bet goes back to when he was child.
“It started when I was a kid,” Mayweather told ESPN.
“When you and a friend can’t agree on something. You’re always competing against one another, always watching sports.
“[When it started off] It was little small betting. Like you’d bet lunch and dinner when you’re a kid. Or a candy bar or a bag of chips.
“But when you get a little bit older, a teenager, I bet you a dollar, two dollars. And then, once you get to the big-boy league, you become an adult.
“You get into sportsbook betting, and that’s how it all started for me.”
