Jaime Munguia delivered arguably the best performance of his career on Saturday night, stopping John Ryder in the ninth round following an extremely impressive performance. Munguia picks up his 43rd win, 34 of which have now come via stoppage.

After the fight, Munguia said he doesn’t know what’s next yet, but he wants to be a world champion at 168. He mentioned it would be an honor to fight against Canelo Alvarez, who has all of the belts, if given the opportunity.

How Jaime Munguia beat John Ryder

Munguia came out determined and was able to knock down Ryder in the second round with a combo of punches landing to the body and chin. Ryder hit the canvas again in the following round, but it wasn’t ruled a knockdown by the referee.

In the fourth round, Munguia knocked down Ryder for the second time, catching him off-balance with a stiff jab. Munguia delivered huge shots in the eighth round that nearly forced a stoppage, but a resilient Ryder kept the fight alive.

But in the ninth round, Munguia was absolutely dominant and forced a thrown towel.

Ryder couldn’t get much going as Munguia controlled the tempo and the ring. Though Ryder was able to land a good amount of shots when Munguia pushed forward, he couldn’t do enough damage to really threaten the Mexican.

This very well might be Ryder’s last fight, who lost to Canelo in the previous fight and will turn 36 in the summer.
