Boxing will have one of its most important events this weekend with the fight between Jake Paul and Anderson Silva.
It is surprising that two boxers with very little experience have garnered so much interest, but a sport like boxing also celebrates the arrival of some entertainers like YouTuber Paul to keep the fans interested.
Paul will try to get his sixth win as a pro and stay undefeated. He will do so against Silva, a 47-year-old Brazilian who is a mixed martial arts legend, but as a professional boxer he is almost inexperienced with four fights. The American has found himself in a bit of a bind with UFC, the MMA juggernaut.
That unforeseen development has upset Paul and Showtime, which is in charge of the bout’s broadcast.
“UFC has been uncooperative in providing access to fight footage, which is usually a courtesy provided without much controversy. I’m sure Anderson would have appreciated access to his old fights,” explained Stephen Espinoza, president of Showtime Sports, in an interview with MMA Fighting.
Therefore, for the promotion of the fight this Saturday, October 29, no footage of Anderson Silva’s career could be seen, since UFC rejected that proposal. This has caused Paul and UFC President Dana White to continue to exchange messages and grow their feud.
“White is doing everything he can to hurt Anderson Silva‘s PPV promotion. It just shows how much he fears what I’m doing. Trust me, change is coming and we are getting organised,” Paul said on social media.
Espinoza, who believes that they don’t want to see Paul grow, was also of the same opinion.
“I think there is a threat in what Jake is doing in the business sense,” Espinoza said.
“Yes, he’s aligned with Showtime now, he was aligned with other platforms before, but he’s literally taking his business, his life’s dream. I think it’s a threat to the established order of combat sports.”
