After intense negotiations and on the first day of free agency, the New York Knicks finally signed Jalen Brunson to a four-year, $104 million contract, according to Yahoo Sports.

Brunson will have the chance to join the likes of RJ Barrett, Julius Randle and Evan Fournier in trying to provide the Knicks with a much-needed scoring boost. The vast majority of Knicks fans seem excited about the signing, although they feel it was an overpay.

Brunson’s departure from Dallas to New York has been widely anticipated for days, as the Knicks made a more lucrative offer to play a larger role in a franchise that has deep family ties, including the recent addition of his father, Rick Brunson, as an assistant coach.

Knicks paid big for player

To fans and some specialists it seems that the price for Brunson was too high, as not only did they pay 104 million, they also let go of players like: Kemba Walker, Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel, in addition to giving away future draft picks. All this in order to have salary cap space.

In the 2021-22 season, Jalen Brunson enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career. He averaged 16.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game and his performance improved in the playoffs. Bruson signed 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in the postseason helping the Mavericks reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time in a decade.
