AMichael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey, the one he wore in the first game of the 1998 NBA Finals during his ‘Last Dance’, has been sold at auction by Sotheby’s for 10.1 million dollars.
Auction house Sotheby’s expected the jersey to fetch around 3m dollars, with that number blown out of the water by the eventual figure.

The Chicago Bulls beat the Utah Jazz 4-2 in the 1998 NBA Finals which marked the ‘Last Dance’ of Jordan‘s final NBA season.
In the first game the Bulls lost 99-85 in overtime to the Jazz in Salt Lake City with Jordan scoring 33 points in that game.

With this sale, that Jordan jersey, the second NBA Finals jersey ever to go on sale, becomes the most expensive in the history of the sport.
The 10.1 million dollars for Jordan‘s jersey exceeds the 9.2 million dollars paid for the Argentina jersey worn by Diego Maradona in the legendary ‘Hand of God’ match against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final in Mexico.
The third most expensive match-worn jersey in the history of sport was the one of baseball legend Babe Ruth, which sold for 5.6 million dollars in 2019.
