Everyone is still joining in on the jokes surrounding Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock during the last Oscars ceremony and the NFL world is no exception, as demonstrated by former New England Patriots star Julian Edelman, who used the viral moment to make fun of his friend Tom Brady.
Edelman, who during his 12-season NFL career only played for the Pats from 2009-2020, made a mockery of Brady’s resistance against retirement via meme.
Edelman posts Rock-Smith meme to refer to Brady
The image the former wide receiver posted on his Twitter account references the fact that The GOAT barely lasted 40 days in retirement after he announced he was back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers heading into the league’s 2022 season.
It doesn’t take much thought to know that the photo posted by Edelman depicts the now iconic moment that happened during the last Academy Awards, where Will Smith went on stage to slap comedian Chris Rock.
However, Edelman’s image shows Brady’s name above Smith, while the word ‘retirement’ is above Rock, an obvious way of saying that the legendary quarterback has given a tremendous slap in the face to the decision to end his long and successful career, after only a month and a half after announcing his retirement he reversed his decision.
Edelman and Brady, an everlasting friendship
Contrary to the complicated relationship between Rock and Smith (who won an Oscar for Best Actor) after the viral moment they had last Sunday, Edelman and Brady are still as good friends as they were during all the years they were teammates in the Patriots, which is why this mockery of the former wide receiver to the quarterback should not cause any problem between the two.
