Salt Lake City will undoubtedly never be the same for Kamaru Usman, as he lost his UFC welterweight championship to Leon Edwards after being knocked out in spectacular fashion with a head kick just a few seconds before the clock ran out.

The Nigerian fighter spoke with Joe Rogan on the latest episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” and acknowledged he felt relief after losing the belt, as he wasn’t attached to it.

“It’s weird to really explain, but you get to a certain point where people start putting expectations in you, ‘you’re gonna do this, you’re gonna do that, you’re gonna become this’, to where I didn’t get in to all of that”.

He added that he never enter his defense title fights thinking he had to hold on to the crown, but rather as each and every one of those fights like a championship bout where he was one of the two contenders.

“I was never attached to the title, as weird as that sounds, I didn’t, I was never attached to it, no ‘Oh I’m champion, I gotta hold on to this”, Usman explained.

The former UFC welterweight champion of the world, Kamaru Usman, told Joe Rogan that when he fights he enters a “zone where he’s unbothered”.

At UFC 278, Kamaru Usman got knocked out by Leon Edwards with a head kick, afterwards, Usman spend around 20 minutes interacting with the UFC’s medical staff, his family and inner circle while apparently being in good shape.

But know Usman has acknowledged that he doesn’t recall around 20 minutes after the KO, and that his first memorie comes with him being checked on while in the ambulance.

“Leon gave me like a 20 minute nap”, a statement that prompted the laughs of Rogan and Usman.
