Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant explained why he smokes marijuana in a Netflix interview with David Letterman. The full interview will be available May 20 as part of the new season of My Guest Needs No Introduction.
In an advance of the interview, Durant first started speaking on his business ventures in the marijuana industry, specifically about his partnership with Weedmaps — an application used to find local dispensaries. He explained that the purpose of the partnership is to destigmatize the narrative of athletes smoking weed.
Durant then revealed that he first started consuming cannabis at 22-years-old. His comments are headline-worthy due to the NBA still having a ban in place for marijuana use despite no longer doing random drug tests.

The Slim Reaper then explained why he smoked weed, comparing it to having a glass of wine. He also admitted to Letterman that he was actually high at that very moment.
“To me, it clears the distractions out of your brain a little bit. Settles you down. It’s like having a glass of wine,” Durant said. “I’m actually high right now.”
Durant has been advocating for medical marijuana over the past few years. Like many athletes, he views cannabis as a safer, non-addictive alternative to prescription painkillers.
The new season of My Guest Needs No Introduction will include interviews with Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ryan Reynolds and Will Smith. In previous seasons, Letterman has interviewed Barack Obama, Dave Chappele and Kim Kardashian.
