The real life Count Dracula, a fictional character who was based on Vlad Tepes is actually related to King Charles III. Bet only a few people knew that but it’s completely true, the King is actually the great great grandson 16 times removed of Vlad ‘The Impaler’. There were many Royal Family stories that have emerged since King Charles III took the throne but this one has to be the most random one of them all.
Tepes was the ruler of Wallachia, a Romanian country from the 15th century that eventually became Transylvania. He became famous during his time due to his unique torturing methods of impaling enemies in wooden spikes. Such terrible “traditions” that led him to be linked to Bram Stocker’s ‘Dracula‘ character for many years. Too many, he is the historical figure that served as the inspiration for the literary creation.

According to the Romania Tour Store, King Charles III is related to Tepes through Queen Mary. She was the consort of George V and a direct descendant of Tepes. King Charles III has visited Transylvania before and he’s even boasted about his relation to the ruthless warlord. His predilection to te country is so great that he often travels there and even has real estate for rent.
The King purchased and restored an 18th-century Saxon cottage in the village of Viscri, in Transylvania. He visited the region for the first time in 1998 and completely fell in love with the place. This home is formerly known as the Zalan Guesthouse, it’s available for overnight stays and proceeds go toward his local charitable foundation.
Now that he’s taken over the throne, it will be almost impossible for King Charles III to visit that country. All his commitments to the Royal Family and the Crown won’t allow him to go as often as he would like. By the way, Charles is the only one who has this fascination for Transylvania. All his siblings, Queen Elizabeth II, and King George VI’s generations are related to Vlad ‘The Impaler’.
