Nick Kyrgios was in the spotlight again in his US Open second round clash against Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi.

After taking a 4-3 lead in the second set, the Australian went to the umpire to protest about the smell of marijuana coming from the stands of the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The 27-year-old explained that the smoke could harm players suffering from asthma, like himself.

“People don’t know, I’m a heavy asthmatic,” he said.

“When I’m running side to side, I’m struggling to breathe, so it’s probably not something I want to be breathing in between points.”

When play resumed, the umpire asked spectators to “refrain from smoking around the court”.

Beyond that, the Australian also displayed his notorious temper after his serve was broken to go 5-4 down in the third set.

Then, Kyrgios cursed his team at the changeover by assuring them to “go home if you’re not going to support me”.

After that, he received an unsportsmanlike conduct warning before losing the third set. He went on to beat Bonzi 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
