Frenkie de Jong‘s future has been up in the air since the summer transfer market opened in June, and even now with the 2022/23 season approaching, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be a Barcelona player when it kicks off.

Manchester United are keen to reunite De Jong with their new coach Erik ten Hag, though the player himself has been clear that he wants to stay at the Camp Nou.

“He’s our player and we like him a lot,” Joan Laporta told ESPN during the Catalans’ pre-season tour of the United States.

“We’ve had offers for Frenkie but we’re not accepting them at the moment.

“We want to talk to him and to find out exactly what it is that he wants. We need to clarify some aspects of the situation.”?

It should be remembered that Manchester United will not compete in the Champions League this coming season. The English club hope that Ten Hag can twist the player’s arm.

De Jong‘s potential sale would allow Barcelona to lighten the load of their wage bill and, in turn, to register some of the new signings they’ve already made this summer.

The Dutchman is due to receive 21 million euros at the Camp Nou next season and then 28m euros the following campaign.
